[EDIT] guys.... this... is.... a.... DD.... seriously? thank you so much i'm really happy right now :'D [/EDIT]

it'd be better if i could draw something outside rather than white light... *siiiigh*

i also want a garage where i could have a big canvas and unlimited paint and brushes :XD: damn white light (still thinking what should be the best for the background) lololol enough now, i gotta finish my assignment.... school is over but i still have some leftover assignments dammit

I totally agree with the person who suggested the DD. This is a great idea and the image for it is so well done. I see it somewhat differently though. I take from the painting the intensity of being an artist. Getting lost in the work and having a personal space. I totally dig this. Thank you for making it.

if you look for the details, you can tell that the artist works in a far from crowds place. it's like an abandoned garage, plus he brought skateboard with him along with a thermos for his coffee

Yes, that's part of why I like it. Wherever it is, it is just his. I noticed the skateboard and the way the setting is done there is a garage feel, but I imagined it as a empty and abandoned skyscraper that was damaged. (like the white space was just the end of the wall and that beam above the center of the canvas is an exposed support for the wall that isn't there. There's a lot of really cool touches that add character.

I think the white light adds to the picture, instead of detracting from it. Don't do anything to your work!

No, actually I LIKE the white outside. Visually, it simplifies and sets apart the main elements of the garage (setting), the artist with his tools, and the painting itself. The flow in the painting is incredible -- even the "lens flares". I love the perspective of the canvas as it focuses on the painter, and especially his hand holding the brush.

The (almost) flat, white, "overexposed", unseen exterior gives substance to the role of the Artist as the one who SEES things where noone else does. We can't see, or even imagine what he could possibly be seeing, but somehow he does, and in turn, he reflects that onto his canvas.

I don't want to get all goofy and existential on you, but I really think this painting is brilliant!

I was looking around at your other drawings, and it is interesting that this picture is sort of a different feeling from your others. You tend a little more toward the "cute", with a pretty light spirit, but this picture has a lot more depth. I've seen is in a lot of artists -- myself included. Every so often, something different comes out. Not to say anything bad about the rest of that person's work; it's just reflecting a little different side of them as an artist.

i was obsessed with creating artworks for my portfolio, and i thought that my usual style wouldn't be very appealing to adults. so i decided to get out from my comfort zone and drew some pieces like this ^^;

Hehe... the old "Out of the comfort zone..." thing. ;-) Yeah, probably one of the most important things we can do as artists. Natural tendency is to fall into that nice comfortable rut, where we know what we are doing, and by gum, we're GOOD at it too! But we'll never grow if we don't force ourselves (or, if our real friends don't twist our arms a bit) to do things we aren't necessarily comfortable with, or good at, or completely understand. I'm really comfortable with sculpting figures, but I'm trying to make myself go more "abstract" (whatever THAT means). Means I have to put my head up and look around, and try some things that will likely be hopeless failures, but I'll be learning.

Well, if this picture is any indication of what happens when you break out of the box, then by all means, keep on pushing the envelope!! You've got great technical skills. Now just free your heart and see where it takes you!

Daaang, this is incredible! I absolutely love the shading/lighting effect here, it looks so awesome. All the little extra details here such as the paint cans, the canvas itself, and even the wrinkles on the man's shirt add such a nice effect.
The painting reminds me of a Jackson Pollock (my favourite artists), are you, by chance, familiar with him? c:
Also, congrats on the DD, very well deserved!

I'd say the "white light"-background is part of what makes this piece so great. It places the artist and painting in focus, while also adding a wondrous effect to the whole painting.

As was suggested by :iconeenii: this picture really defines the feeling of being an artist. If you'd analyze it just a bit:

Great space and lots of tools - Creative freedom (The post-modern artwork also adds to this)
The bright light - An undefined, but bright, future to look at. Or simply that the world around doesn't really matter at the moment.
A relaxed artist - Feeling confident in your skills and what you are doing

Well... That is just me running my mouth off a bit. Either way, damn good piece of art you got there!
